Disney Dreams: A new step to making Disney Park Firework Spectaculars?

20 days ago, Disneyland Paris introduced Disney Dreams!. The parks new nighttime spectacular. Unlike firework shows of the past, Steve Davison combined the elements of everything he accomplished the past few years. The show includes 2 mist screens, a small fountain package for the moat and projection mapping on the castle and a neat fire package.

The obstacle that the resort had the past few years was that France had a strict firework restriction. Most firework shows before Dreams only consisted of low level, in-park pyro. Steve Davison found a way to make his show, the best thing to happen to DL Paris by bringing in elements of World of Color and the Magic, the memories and You show in Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

When I watched the show on Youtube, I was amazed on how Steve transformed the castle and had it do many crazy things not seen in a show in front of a castle. This was no doubt a culmination of his success as a show director and his team did a very good job.

One thing I noticed right away is that Dreams is what World of Color would've been like. Early plans for World of Color included a character called Little Squirt who would be a lone orange fountain going around Disney moments. Unfortunately, that wouldn't work well with just water and no one would know who Little Squirt is. Fortunately, Steve saved this idea for Dreams and decided to use Peter Pan who has a misbehaving shadow. It was a perfect way to salvage this story idea and Peter's Shadow was essential in giving Dreams a very good tale!

Now many are wondering: Will this kind of display work at other Disney Parks? That answer is maybe. If Steve wants to do this kind of show at other parks, it's up to him and if the castle can accommodate it. But one thing is certain: He has changed the way we look at Disney Park Firework shows.
